CERT Training Level Requirements
Independent study (IS) courses are designed for the adult learner and provide participants the ability to work at their own pace. Libraried materials are available for check out from CERT Coordinator. There are no enrollment fees or charges. Further information on the IS courses can be obtained by clicking on the course numbers.
Level I
- Basic 20 hour program
- Attend 6 Costa Mesa CERT monthly meetings or the November refresher
- Incident Command IS100 & NIMS IS700
These Independent Study (IS) courses can be completed online or by attending city training- dates TBA.
Level II
- CERT Level I
- Completion of the American Red Cross (Mass Care, Shelter Operations, & Shelter Simulation) hosted by CMFD or other jurisdiction
- Completion of a certified Community CPR and Basic First Aid Course.
These courses may be taken at the Red Cross ((714)-481-5300 or www.oc-redcross.org) or may be offered in Costa Mesa based on availability.
Level III
- CERT I
- CERT II
- Animals in Disaster - Awareness & Preparedness and Community Planning-Independent Study program (Course #'s IS-10 & IS-11)
- Introduction to Hazardous Materials for Citizens-Independent Study Course # IS-55.
- Traffic Safety/Management
- Medical Operations III
- Critical Incident Stress Management
Orange County Mutual Aid and CERT Volunteer Program
- Basic CERT Level I
- a complete background check including fingerprints
- Mutual Aid Module - Local jurisdiction coordinator or mutual aid training event.
- Shelter Management - American Red Cross (same courses as listed in LEVEL II)
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification
